"Isn't It Romantic" is a two hour musical revuecelebrating the careers of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart who together, survived twenty-eight years as a team and wrote 496 songs. Blazing a trail of novelty and sophistication through the history of musical theatre, Rodgers & Hart were one of the great milestone geniuses in the history of American Musical Theatre. In a sense, they invented it, they started it.
As a lyricist, Hart had a colour, a tone, a sort of bitter beauty that no one else had or ever will have, the most sensitive, the most touching, most Chaplin-esque ability to get laughs and make you cry at the same time. Richard Rodgers, known as the waltz king, is best remembered for his work with lyricist, Oscar Hammerstein II. But it is the canon of songs created with Hart, that have stood the test of time. The show is fully contained and features a quartet of actor/singers with piano accompaniment to the backing of a jazz combo.
